During not very recent past, religious fanaticism in my area has grown to a very alarming situation, affecting life of an aam aadmi. Yesterday was an auspicious day from Hindu point of view. It was saying good bye to Lord Ganesha with a request to come next year early – knowing well that HE will come only on dates fixed by his lordship only.
Observing Ganeshchaturthi in this area, observing Chhath puja in this area Advent of Shani temple and Sai temple are new and borrowed culture due to demographic changes. Nice development. It affects economy also. Due to politico-geographical changes, the place near Muradnagar – which was known for Moong ka chilla and evening snacks on the bank of Ganga Canal is transformed to Chhota Haridwar (poor man’s Haridwar or what – unable to comprehend). The stretch from Modinagar to Rajnagar Extension Crossing is now notoriously infamous for traffic jams and the administration is blissfully either ignorant or has left all and sundry to have faith in GOD.
Ganesh Chaturthi is most famous in Maharashtra. In marathi people from all faiths chant GANPATI BAPPA MORYA. Yetsreday, writer of these lines was stranded for a pretty long period enjoying the atmosphere in which he was put. Forced to enjoy the company people in spiritual zone (spirit in the gut and aroma in the atmosphere) Criminally high level of sound and people dancing over the NOISE (telling music will be an insult to musicians of the area). Flouting all traffic and civil rules. Administration out of sight. The most interesting part was enjoying the slogan shouting, which reminded me Shri Yeshudass – a malyali singer, who sings so nicely in all languages. Hindi songs transcript-ed in malyali and sung by Yeshudass is equally melodious. Just enjoy the slogan which I heard GANPATI BAPA MAURYA (reminds me of maurya destiny) and GANPATI BAPA MOR-JA (my bangla knowing people may enjoy this word more than any body else).
Whether, this type of act exhibits frustration of the youth, supremacy of one faith over other (majoritian approach of democracy), real puja or what. WILL ANY BODY HELP?
